Holden Boys Qualify Four to State, Led by Christian’s District Title

The boys class 1 district 2 tournament took place in Butler on February 21st and 22nd. At the conclusion of the tournament, the Holden boys wrestling team qualified four for the state tournament.

Senior Aiden Christian (40-1) led the Eagles by capturing the district title at 285lbs. Christian had three falls in the tournament highlighted by a pin over Jax Cromwell (23-9) of Lone Jack in the championship match. Christian will look for his second state medal in Columbia next week after a 3rd place finish in 2024.

Another returning state medalist, senior Trent Stout (34-9), qualified for the state tournament at 157lbs. Stout took third in the highly competitive district bracket highlighted by a 20-4 technical fall over Bostyn Wilson (24-10) of Warsaw in the 3rd-place match. Stout finished 6th at the state tournament in 2024.

Senior Graysen Thieman (30-15) qualified in the 132lb weight class by posting 2nd in the district bracket. Thieman’s tournament was highlighted with a semifinal pin over Shane Fletcher (33-14) of El Dorado Springs. Thieman becomes a two-time state qualifier with the result and returns to the state tournament for the first time since his freshman campaign.

Sophomore Payton Tye (18-26) won four straight matches on the back side of the 126lb bracket to earn his first state qualification. Tye’s tournament was highlighted by a 6-5 decision win over Isaac Harris of Lone Jack in the 3rd round of consolation.

Noah Greissl (14-15) fell one win short of state qualification but won two matches in wrestlebacks in the 165lb bracket.

Senior Conner Carver (20-11) closed out his Eagle career after dropping a 7-3 decision to Jarel Stone of University Academy in the 3rd round of wrestlebacks in the 175lb bracket.

Eagle grapplers Vince Vance, Hudson Gregg, Kaleb Catron, and Liam Claxton also competed in the tournament.

The four Eagle qualifiers will take their district medals to the MSHSAA state championships on February 26th-27th in Columbia next week.
